US RAiD Pilot
Research Activity Identifier for Research Projects
RAiD (Research Activity Identifier) is a persistent identifier and global registry for identifying, tracking and sharing research projects. RAiD can be used by organizations, project teams and individual researchers to:
- Transparently and reliably centralize and preserve vital project information, even after a project ends
- Enable long-term discovery, resolution, access, sharing, reporting and impact assessment of the researchers, resources, funding and associated outputs of projects with multiple stakeholders over time
- Reduce administrative burden during funding applications, project collaborations and reporting

What is the US RAiD Pilot?
RAiD was developed by the Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC), and while many stakeholders across the globe have expressed interest in using RAiD to help streamline information management for research projects, the technical infrastructure for RAiD has not yet been implemented in most regions of the globe, including the United States.
The US RAiD Pilot is an NSF-funded initiative to bring RAiD services and infrastructure to the United States. This initiative is led by the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC), part of the University of California (UC) San Diego School of Computing, Information and Data Sciences (SCIDS), in partnership with Lyrasis, a nonprofit organization serving libraries, archives, museums and related knowledge communities. The goal of the two-year pilot is to establish RAiD technical infrastructure, work with interested organizations to pilot the RAiD service and determine a sustainable business model for US organizations interested in using RAiD beyond the pilot/grant period.
If you are interested in participating in the pilot and/or would like to receive updates about the project, please complete our US RAiD Pilot Interest form.
The project is jointly funded by the NSF Office of Advanced Cyberinfrastructure and the Directorate for Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences (award no. 2434407).
